SOME HELPFUL FIRST STEPS FOR SOMEONE IN COLLEGE

Get involved and figure out what type of worker/individual you are and build your network.

HURDLES I OVERCAME

THE “NOISE” FROM PEOPLE

“If it wasn't for me, you would be living in a gutter someplace. (my parents) You're going to do great things. (my mentors, professors) Oh, that thing you do. (my family) Oh, you're a girl, you'll know how to cut cake better than me (male co-worker).”

HOW I OVERCAME THE “NOISE”

Noise is someone else's attempt at defining who you are or should be. An easy way to overcome this is to have standards. Have standards for how you expect yourself to act, others to act, how others treat you, and how others treat the world. This does a great deal for your confidence. And confidence is crucial for landing a job and finding a career you love. Standards do a great deal for creating balance in your life also. Its not just about having 'success', it's about being a well rounded individual.
